Dubai Run changes lives
Last year’s Dubai Run, held on 20 November 2022, changed the lives of many people across the country and helped them achieve their fitness goals.
Among the thousands of runners was Umaima Ajaz, a Dubai resident whose life began to change with the event. Due to being overweight, Ms Ajaz was unable to run to the finish line and realised how important it was to always be fit.
“I was determined that in my next Dubai Run I would definitely run the full distance. Last year I weighed 130kg. Thanks to intensive training and striving to achieve my fitness goal, my weight is now 99kg,” Umaima shared.
Over the past year, she has not only changed her appearance but also improved her mental and emotional state. “I haven’t missed a single day of training,” the girl shared, “I work out five days a week, dedicating four days to strength training and one day to cardio, with two well-deserved rest days in between.
“I’ve been shedding the kilos very slowly. So I focused on workouts that will make me physically stronger, which in turn will help me reduce my body weight,” says Umaima, adding that she is much happier now. Apart from the physical changes, she has improved her stamina and got rid of her breathing problems.
“One of the key motivators for me is visual proof of progress. I take a photo every day, creating a diary that serves as a reminder of my journey. People express surprise and shock when they see me after a month or a week,” says Umaima.
But it’s not just about working out, she also pays a lot of attention to her food choices. “I prepare my own food, focusing on lower calorie and protein-rich foods. My breakfast consists of a protein shake,” Umaima informed. Now for her, time spent in the gym is the happiest time.
