Hatta has two new attractions coming up soon
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) unveiled two tourism projects in Hatta at the 25th edition of the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition as part of the construction of a hydropower plant.
The first project, titled ‘Sustainable Hatta Falls’, will present visitors with not only a renewable energy source but also an eco-friendly oasis.
The hydropower plant will have four zones connected by bridges crossing a water channel that ends in a lake with a balanced natural aquatic environment. There will also be a children’s play area as well as cafes and restaurants.
The design of the waterfalls, in the shape of a hexagonal beehive, is a reference to the famous honey. It will also take place around an 80×30 metre mural depicting the late Sheikhs Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, paying homage to the UAE’s founding fathers.
The second project is called Dubai Mountain Top, and is a cable car route that will run over Hatta Dam and the Upper Lake Hydroelectric Power Plant. It will then wind its way through the mountains and end at the Um Al-Nesoor peak, which is located 1,300 metres above sea level.
Sustainable development and eco-tourism come together in these projects – visitors will not only learn how clean energy is produced in the country, but will also have the opportunity to interact with nature.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa, founder and chairman of WETEX and Dubai Solar Show, said that the 250MW Hatta hydroelectric power plant – the first of its kind in the GCC region – will be operational within a year.
Also, he emphasised: “Using state-of-the-art technology and taking into account the unique geology of the Hatta region, we are implementing projects in accordance with the highest international environmental standards. Our aim is to preserve the Hatta Mountain Reserve, and harmonise the projects with the environment. We want to offer all guests a unique experience, and showcase the beauty of the UAE’s mountainous regions.”
