EXPO 2030 to take place in Riyadh
The capital of Saudi Arabia will host the world exhibition EXPO 2030 – this decision was made at the General Assembly of the Organising Committee of the World Exhibition in Paris.
Riyadh gained in the vote 119 votes out of 160 possible, leaving behind Italian Rome and South Korean Busan. It should be noted that the kingdom will host such a significant event for the first time.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was one of the first to congratulate Saudi Arabia, saying that “the joy of the Saudi people is our joy, their success is our success”.
He also called what happened a shared victory for the Gulf region. Riyadh presented the concept of “an Expo built by the world for the world” based on the principles of inclusiveness, accessibility and sustainability.
Saudi Arabia has previously announced plans to host 120 million guests for the Expo 2030, the kingdom has allocated US$ 7.8bn to prepare for the event.
The theme of the exhibition, the Saudi capital has chosen a commitment to sustainable growth, which is what is transforming it into a modern metropolis. Local airline Riyadh Air promises seamless travel to Riyadh for visitors from all corners of the globe.
It will take only 5 minutes to get from the airport to the expocampus. Expo 2030 will take place from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031, and its theme will be bringing people together in an era of change to build a better future.
The Expo City is planned to be built next to the developing King Salman International Airport. It will consist of 226 country pavilions located closely together, thus symbolising the cohesion of nations.
The exhibition area will be powered by solar energy. The organisers are actively working on strategies to increase biodiversity, minimise food waste and adopt green waste management and recycling practices.
