Artificial lake with beach in Dubai mountains
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, has approved a development plan for the Hatta Mountain region, where an artificial lake will be dug and a beach will be built on its shores.
New neighbourhoods and a school will also be built, according to the plan. The aim of the new plan is to raise the standard of living for the people living in Hatta and to make the township an attractive destination for business, investment and tourism locally and internationally.
The Hatta Beach project covers an area of more than 53,000 square metres, of which 10,000 square metres is an artificial lagoon (lake) around which tourist infrastructure will be built.
The mountainous region of Hatta will turn into a major tourist centre in the coming years with a new market, bicycle tracks and an artificial beach. Such projects are contained in the Hatta Master Plan for the next 20 years.
The plan contains recommendations for designing buildings in the mountainous area, optimising the road network, renovating the Heritage Village and creating opportunities for local businesses and farmers.
Hatta has already laid an 11.5km cycle track from the bus station to the dam, with plans to build another 6km track in the town soon, as well as a 5.5km mountain bike track that will pass through archaeological sites.
Work has begun on a local market where farmers will be able to sell vegetables, fruit and other fresh produce. Nearby there will be cafes, restaurants and playgrounds for shoppers with children.
