Indian woman wins US$ 1 million in Dubai Duty Free lottery
An Indian woman named Payal, who lives in the state of Punjab, hit the US$ 1 million jackpot in the Dubai Duty Free (DDF) Millennium Millionaire lottery using a ticket she bought online.
According to the winner, the money to buy the winning ticket was given to her by her husband in honour of their 16th wedding anniversary. Payal decided to buy the DDF ticket online and chose the one that had the number 3 more often than the others, as it is her favourite number.
“I used to buy DDF lottery tickets once or twice a year at the airport, but last time I made an exception by buying a ticket online for the first time,” Payal shared, happily adding, “This cash gift from my husband has made us millionaires.”
According to Payal, she was very surprised when the organisers of DDF called her to tell her the happy news. When the lucky lady was asked how she plans to spend the money, she said: “It’s still very early to make a decision. But of course our priority is to secure the future of our children – to give them a really good education for a great life.”
“I would also like to help my brother who lives in Australia and do charity work in our Punjabi community. Thank you, Dubai Duty Free, for fulfilling my dream,” she added.
Payal became the 229th person from India to win the Millennium Millionaire promotion. Another lucky winner was a 48-year-old British mother of four named Nasreen, who also won US$ 1 million in the previous draw.
Nasreen said it was the first time she bought a ticket. “I never hoped to win this much, so when I bought the ticket I didn’t even tell anyone about it,” she added.
