Nol Travel Card launched for residents and visitors to Dubai

On Monday 10 June, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the launch of a new Nol Travel Card for residents and visitors to the emirate. Citizens and tourists can use it to pay for public transport, parking, and entertainment and activities in Dubai.

The new card also offers discounts from 5% to 10% at hotels, shops, entertainment venues and programme partners. Initially, the Nol Travel Card will be available for purchase at Dubai International Airport (DXB) as well as at selected partner shops such as Zoom and Europcard.

The card now costs AED 200 for a year with a balance of AED 19, and will be renewable at the end of the year for AED 150. Current Nol card users will not be able to upgrade to the new Nol Travel card at present, but RTA said it would consider the possibility in the future.

‘The innovation will help meet customer needs – bringing together public transport and city facilities through one card, making it a single payment method with discounts of up to 100 per cent (Dh17,000 in cash equivalent),’ said Mohammed Al Mudharreb, general manager of RTA’s corporate technology services sector.

Salahaldin Almarzouqi, director of the Automated Collection Systems Department, said the new card will have its own packages with various benefits and discounts.

“It is a physical card, but we plan to add a digital variation using a barcode. RTA will explore the possibility of transferring balance from existing Nol cards to the new Nol Travel card in the future,’ Mr Almarzouki said.

Amr Abdelsamad, managing director of MDX Solutions, said there are already more than 100 partners and venues such as restaurants and entertainment venues where the card is accepted and the number will only increase over time.
