Dubai residents invited to design their own park
UAE citizens and residents have been given the opportunity to design a future park in Dubai, which will be located in the Nad Al Hamar 3 neighbourhood. At a recent workshop, they came up with several ideas on what should be included in the park, such as an interactive playground, air-to-water moisture conversion devices for plants and a shaded bike path.
A high school student who attended the workshop said participants focused on maintaining the identity of the area when designing the park:
“Among other things, we discussed an interactive play area for children, which would have a small water fountain with water speakers on the floor through which music would be played.
We agreed on gaf trees as the vegetation because they are the most suitable for the landscape. Also, the floor will be painted in light colours so that it doesn’t absorb too much heat from the sun and the playground doesn’t look faded.”
Some of the ideas that participants came up with included using solar panels, creating an animal shelter and building facilities such as a gym, cycle track, padel tennis court and a fountain.
The workshop was held as part of the launch of the Dubai Urban Design Platform, an artificial intelligence-based platform that aims to empower residents to transform urban spaces.
The meeting, which was attended by more than 20 people of varying ages, was attended by other officials to discuss the technical aspects of some of the ideas proposed.
Emirati officials said the initiative aims not only to optimise the urban planning process and reduce costs, but also to allow residents to participate in shaping the city’s environment.
