UAE President declares July 18 as Union Pledge Day

His Highness Sheikh Mohammand bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, has declared 18 July as Union Pledge Day, the country’s new National Holiday.

The date marks the signing of a declaration of union by the UAE’s founding father and the rulers of the emirates in 1971, which led to the formal establishment of the new state on 2 December that year.

‘On this day in 1971, the Founding Father and his brother rulers signed the Declaration of Union and the UAE Constitution, announcing the name of our country as the United Arab Emirates,’ the president said via social media X. (photo by WAM)

Today, we declare 18 July as Union Pledge Day, a national event that highlights the history of our country and the blessed journey towards the establishment of a united state,’ the president added.

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the UAE Presidential Court, said: ‘This is a historic day that epitomises the values of unity, solidarity and cohesion of the Emirati people.’
