Dubai police confiscate nearly 4,000 electric scooters
Dubai police confiscated 3,800 electric scooters, bicycles and electric bikes in the historic Naif neighbourhood for violations of traffic rules by their drivers and owners, including the use of two-wheelers on public roads.
The emirate’s authorities have called on all two-wheeler owners to comply with traffic rules and guidelines, which prescribe travelling only on dedicated lanes. As is well known, electric scooters should not be travelled on lanes designed for running and walking.
In addition, you should refuse to carry loads on two-wheeled transport, which may cause the driver to lose balance. You should also avoid installing carriers on two-wheeled vehicles and making significant modifications to their design.
Dangerous offences include driving at speeds over 60 km/h, driving against traffic and crossing pedestrian crossings on a scooter. Any incidents or offences should be reported to Police Eye or the Dubai Police 901 number.
Four people have been killed and 25 others injured in road accidents involving e-scooter drivers and cyclists, Dubai Police said earlier. The locations and times of the accidents were not reported.
The guards clarified that more than 7,800 traffic offences have been recorded and 4,474 e-scooters and bicycles have been confiscated since the beginning of the year. This means that, on average, authorities confiscate 24 two-wheelers each day.
