Red Bull stuntman makes stunning jump in Abu Dhabi

Red Bull stuntman Sebastian Alvarez was the first athlete in the world to make a stunning helicopter jump and land on the highest artificial wave at Surf Abu Dhabi surf club in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The athlete set a world record and promoted the new Abu Dhabi attraction, which will start welcoming guests this October. The Chilean jumped out of a helicopter at an altitude of 3,657 metres while strapped to a modified surfboard.

The wave he landed on at Hudairiyat Island was 2.3 metres high. According to the stuntman, he made his dream come true with this jump, which was like a step into the unknown.

The Surf Abu Dhabi project, developed in collaboration with the Kelly Slater Wave Co organisation, will feature the world’s largest barrel and the world’s longest surfing ‘slope’.

The pool is expected to host major international surfing events and will be available for beginners and professionals alike to train in. Surf Abu Dhabi was part of Modon Properties’ masterplan, which has planned a 51 million square metre development on the island.

The new sports attraction is located next door to the region’s first Velodrome Abu Dhabi, which will open in 2025 and will be a major regional sports centre as well as the capital’s largest park at 2.25 million square metres.

Hudairiyat Island is home to the region’s first UCI Category 1 indoor cycleway. The total length of the cycleway network is 220 kilometres. In addition to Surf Abu Dhabi and Velodrome Abu Dhabi, Hudayriat Island is already a destination for sports enthusiasts, with Trail X, Bike Park and 321 Sports all operating here.
