New Relax Zone launched at Dubai Airport

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has opened a spacious new lounge in Terminal 2 with a quiet relaxation area designed specifically for people with special needs.

The lounge is the world’s first dedicated space for people with disabilities. It is spacious enough to accommodate wheelchairs and has equipment that has been carefully designed to meet the needs of special travellers.

Upon entering the lounge, guests are welcomed into a tranquil environment, with interiors that reflect the spirit of modern Dubai. There are contrasting surfaces to make it easier for visually impaired travellers to move around, and seating close to the staff for those with hearing impairments to facilitate direct communication.

A quiet stress relief area has been created especially for people with autism where they can relax and calm down. A special area for unaccompanied minors was also created.

The project was the result of a collaboration between DXB and dnata, the operator of the lounge. It is part of a multi-million dirham programme that includes plans to open similar lounges in other terminals.

Majid Al Joker, chief operating officer of Dubai Airport, said: ‘This lounge reflects our continued commitment to making Dubai International Airport a welcoming destination for all travellers. This new facility is a step in our ongoing endeavour to provide a seamless journey for all guests, regardless of their individual needs.’

It is worth recalling that DXB received Airports Council International (ACI) accreditation in 2022 as part of the Accreditation Programme for Improving Accessibility, an initiative to recognise the commitment of the world’s airports to making travel easier for all passengers.

The airport has also received Autism Friendly certification from the Dubai Autism Centre and became the first international airport to achieve Autism Accredited Centre (CAC) status.
