Dubai shows design of new metro stations

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has revealed the futuristic design of the new metro stations planned to be built along the Blue Line.

The new stations will have a smooth oval design that will rise above the tracks. They will be radically different from the fully enclosed stations that were built on the ‘red’ and ‘green’ branches.

The exits from the stations will be on both sides, as evidenced by the presence of side structures of a similar design. As you know, the Blue Line will serve Dubai’s densely populated bedroom neighbourhoods, including Mirdiff, International City and Academic City.

A distinctive feature of the new line will be a 1,300-metre viaduct that will cross Dubai Bay and connect the Al Jaddaf area with Dubai Festival City and Dubai Creek Harbour. The new line will be 30 kilometres long and will be operational in 2029.

The Dubai Metro, as reported last summer, has become the most popular form of public transport in the emirate. The metro was used by 37 per cent of all passengers in the first half of 2024, with average daily ridership reaching 1.98 million, up from 1.88 million in the same period in 2023.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority took into account metro, trams, public buses, marine transport, taxis, e-hail cars, smart rental cars and on-demand buses in conducting the study. Overall, public transport passenger numbers totalled 361.2 million in the first six months of this year, a 6 per cent increase over the same period in 2023.
