Surf Abu Dhabi starts receiving guests
The world’s largest artificial wave pool Surf Abu Dhabi has begun hosting guests at Hudayriat Island in Abu Dhabi. Experienced athletes from all corners of the world – from Portugal and South Africa to Sri Lanka and Australia – come together to teach and promote surf culture.
Lessons start from AED 600 and sun lounger hire is AED 200. Surf Abu Dhabi, developed in collaboration with Kelly Slater Wave Co, features the world’s largest barrel and the world’s longest surfing ‘slope’.
The pool will host major international surfing events and is open to beginners and professionals alike to train in. Surf Abu Dhabi was part of Modon Properties’ masterplan, which has planned a 51 million square metre development on the island.
The new sports attraction is located next door to the region’s first velodrome, Velodrome Abu Dhabi, which will open in 2025 and will be a major regional sports centre as well as the capital’s largest park at 2.25 million square metres.
In October, the Greek-style Ilios Beach Club opened on Hudairiyat Island, as well as the Nalu Surf Club for surfing enthusiasts. Both clubs are adjacent to Surf Abu Dhabi and cater to its guests.
Ilios Beach Club comprises a restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine, including seafood snacks, as well as a lounge and private pool. It features indoor facilities and an al fresco terrace.
In turn, Nalu Surf Club’s design, with its two-storey layout, rooftop lounge and open-air bar, is inspired by the Californian coastline. The family-friendly atmosphere is a great place to watch beginners and experienced surfers practice.
