Distributing One Million Local Tree Seedlings campaign launched in the UAE
The UAE has launched a major greening initiative in the country called ‘Distributing One Million Local Tree Seedlings’. This was announced on Friday by the Minister of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak. As part of the event, 20,000 saplings were distributed to help increase green spaces and support sustainable development.
The campaign focuses on supporting local agriculture and enhancing food security in the UAE. It is part of the larger Plant the Emirates programme, which aims to support environmental sustainability in the country.
The launch of the initiative was attended by farmers, environmentalists and representatives from the agricultural sector. The minister emphasised the importance of caring for native plants that are adapted to the UAE’s harsh climate with high temperatures and limited water resources. The seedlings have been selected for their adaptability, which will make them ideal for landscaping and restoring local ecosystems.
Dr Al Dahak stressed that the native plants exemplify sustainable agricultural practices that are beneficial to both nature and society. The seedlings will be planted in educational institutions, public and private establishments, an important step towards a collaborative greening of the country.
The Distributing One Million Local Tree Seedlings campaign reflects the UAE’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. The project brings together the efforts of the government, farmers and citizens, aiming to create a green future for the country.
