New Bridge

New Bridge opened in Dubai

Dubai opened traffic on a new bridge that will reduce congestion and provide ‘seamless’ transport links to the city centre and Dubai International Airport on Sunday.

The 1km two-lane bridge will increase traffic flow between Hessa Street and Al Khail Road, reducing journey times from 15 minutes to three minutes, according to the emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The new bridge is a key part of a larger project worth AED689 billion, which also includes upgrading four Hessa Street intersections with Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, Al Asayel Street and Al Khail Road, as well as creating a 13.5km cycle path.

Hessa Street will also be widened from two to four lanes in each direction, increasing its capacity to 8,000 vehicles per hour. The project is reportedly 54 per cent complete and all intersections are scheduled to open in the last quarter of 2025.

The Hess Street development project is one of the key infrastructure projects aimed at improving Dubai’s road network, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority said. It serves several key residential and developing areas including Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha Residential Area and Jumeirah Village Circle.

The population in these neighbourhoods is projected to exceed 640,000 residents by 2030. The project will double the capacity of Hessa Street, increasing it from 8,000 vehicles per hour in both directions to 16,000 vehicles per hour.
