Drones to keep an eye on Dubai’s skyscrapers

Drones will monitor security in the skyscrapers of Jumeirah Lake Towers and Uptown Dubai to help authorities respond more quickly to potential emergencies in the high-rise buildings.

A state-of-the-art Drone Box network has been deployed in the two neighbourhoods: drones can operate beyond line of sight and will collect critical data needed to make emergency decisions. It is noted that this is the first time this system will be used for high-rise buildings.

Dubai Police has previously said that the Drone Box is set to become a key tool for rapid response, to whom it will help to significantly save human resources in the force.

This autonomous aerial platform was first unveiled in 2021. The system is planned to cover the entire emirate and operate with minimal human intervention. For example, drones will be sent to the emergency area to perform a comprehensive survey of the scene and assess the situation before rescue teams arrive.

The drones will also broadcast live to the command centre, allowing real-time decision-making. Drones are planned to be used in cases of road accidents, heavy rains and fires – for example, to search for people in need of help.

The drones can be easily recognised by their traditional blue livery. According to the police, people in residential areas need not fear interference in their privacy, as the drones avoid direct surveillance of people.
