Dubai Introduces Toll Exemption Program for People of Determination and Families
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a landmark initiative to provide free passage on the city’s toll roads for eligible residents, including people with disabilities and their families. The new exemption program, integrated into Dubai’s automated Salik toll system, aims to enhance accessibility and quality of life for individuals with physical, mental, visual, or autism-related challenges.
The toll exemption program extends to:
- People with disabilities (certified by the Ministry of Community Development or the Community Development Authority’s Sanadcard).
- Immediate family members, including parents, spouses (with a marriage contract), children (with a birth certificate), siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren.
Only one vehicle per eligible individual can be exempted from toll fees, though exemptions can be transferred to another registered vehicle after canceling the initial one.
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- Vehicle registration copy.
- Emirates ID of the applicant and the person with disabilities.
- Valid disability certification (Ministry/Sanad card).
- Proof of family relationship (e.g., birth or marriage certificates).
Requests can be submitted via the Salik website or by emailing specialaccounts@salik.ae. The RTA reviews applications within five working days, with approvals valid for one year and renewable annually. The service is free of charge.
The Salik system, which automatically deducts toll fees via scanning gates, is a cornerstone of Dubai’s smart traffic management. By easing financial burdens for vulnerable groups, the RTA seeks to foster inclusivity while maintaining efficient road usage.
“This initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to supporting people of determination and their families,” an RTA spokesperson stated. “It ensures their mobility needs are met without compromising the city’s traffic flow.”
- Exemption Limit: One vehicle per eligible individual.
- Transferability: Exemptions can be shifted to another vehicle after canceling the prior registration.
- Processing: Free, with a five-day turnaround.
The program underscores Dubai’s ongoing efforts to integrate social welfare into its urban infrastructure, prioritizing accessibility for all residents. For more information, visit the official Salik portal or contact the RTA directly.
