Mall of the Emirates in Dubai Announces Major Renovation

One of the Middle East’s largest shopping and entertainment destinations, the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, is set to undergo a massive renovation worth AED 5 billion (approximately $1.36 billion), according to its operator, Majid Al Futtaim.

The expansion project will increase the mall’s total area by 20,000 square meters and introduce around 100 new retail outlets. So far, AED 1.1 billion has already been invested in constructing a new wellness club, a cultural center, a gourmet dining cluster, and upgrading infrastructure.

Key improvements include enhanced accessibility, particularly from Umm Suqeim Bridge and Sheikh Zayed Road. The renovation will also fully revamp the mall’s “western wing,” modernize bridges and access roads, and introduce a new barrier-free parking system, Parkin. These upgrades are expected to be completed by September 2025.

A highlight of the expansion will be a new indoor-outdoor space designed as a green oasis, featuring fast-casual dining and interactive entertainment. The centerpiece will be the mall’s first-ever open-air dining terrace, set to open in early 2027.

Additional developments include the opening of the New Covent Garden theater in mid-2025, new entertainment zones in 2026, and a selection of new restaurants in the northern section by early 2027. Four new entertainment concepts are also planned for late 2026.

The renovation aims to elevate the Mall of the Emirates’ status as a premier lifestyle destination, combining retail, dining, and leisure experiences in a more modern and sustainable environment.
