Dubai Launches Middle East’s Largest Gaming Festival
The Dubai Esports & Games Festival (DEF) 2025, the region’s biggest gaming and esports event, has officially begun in Dubai and will run until May 11, 2025. Organized by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), the 17-day festival promises an immersive experience filled with gaming tournaments, pop-culture exploration, and interactive entertainment for visitors of all ages.
This year’s festival features a prize pool of 500,000 AED across various competitions, alongside free gaming activities, influencer battles, and live interactive shows. The city has transformed into a massive playground for gamers, with the highlight being GameExpo at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from May 9 to 11. The expo will host eight interactive zones, thrilling esports tournaments, and high-profile influencer showdowns.
One of the festival’s most anticipated events is the Dubai Cosplay Championship, where participants will compete for prizes worth 30,000 AED. Additionally, DEF includes citywide and online activities tailored for students, families, and gaming enthusiasts.
Running until May 8, the DEF Educational Engagement Programme offers school visits, game development workshops, and contests with a 50,000 AED prize pool. Schools are also participating in the Power Up Parade Week until May 2, where students dress up as their favorite video game characters in a spirited costume competition.
Young innovators have until April 30 to submit ideas on how gaming can be applied in education and social initiatives, with finalists presenting at GameExpo. Meanwhile, the ENBD Fortnite Quest, an in-game challenge with real-world rewards, continues until May 8.
With its mix of competitive gaming, creative showcases, and educational initiatives, DEF 2025 solidifies Dubai’s position as a leading hub for esports and digital entertainment in the Middle East.
