Dubai Airport Updates Hand Luggage Rules

Dubai International Airport has introduced new security measures designed to simplify the screening process for passengers. The upgraded system removes the requirement for travelers to take out electronic devices and liquids from their carry-on bags, significantly reducing wait times at security checkpoints.

The airport has deployed advanced 3D scanning technology across all three terminals. These next-generation scanners provide security staff with detailed views of baggage contents without requiring passengers to unpack their belongings. The system also features automated conveyor belts that return trays to the starting position, further streamlining the security process. These improvements are expected to give travelers more time to enjoy airport amenities before their flights.

During the same period, Emirates airline reported exceptional baggage handling results, maintaining a 99.9% success rate in luggage delivery between April 2024 and March 2025. The airline’s Dubai hub processed approximately 100,000 bags daily, totaling over 2.8 million pieces of luggage each month – setting a new record for the carrier.

The airline’s baggage mishandling rate stands at just 1.4 incidents per 1,000 bags, significantly lower than many competitors. When delays do occur, 91% of affected luggage is returned to passengers within 72 hours. This performance is particularly impressive given the complexity of Emirates’ global network and the high volume of connecting flights handled in Dubai.

The airport’s lost and found system also demonstrates high efficiency, reuniting passengers with 94% of high-value lost items within one hour. The service processes about 2,300 unlabeled bags each month, successfully identifying and returning about 80% of them to travelers before their flights depart.

These operational improvements in both security screening and baggage handling continue to enhance Dubai International Airport’s reputation as a world-class aviation hub focused on passenger convenience and operational excellence. The changes reflect the airport’s ongoing commitment to improving the travel experience while maintaining strict security standards.
