Robots Welcome Shoppers at Dubai’s City Centre Mirdif

Dubai’s City Centre Mirdif, one of the emirate’s largest shopping destinations, has introduced an innovative customer service experience with the launch of robot assistants. As part of a pilot project led by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) and Majid Al Futtaim, two robots are now operational in the mall, helping visitors locate stores, restaurants, and other facilities.

The initiative goes beyond mere technological demonstration—it aims to gather real-time feedback from shoppers to assess how robotics can enhance service efficiency and customer satisfaction in retail environments. According to Majid Al Futtaim, the project aligns with the group’s broader digital transformation strategy, which focuses on creating smart, adaptive retail spaces that cater to evolving consumer expectations.

Developed in collaboration with Japan’s Osaka University, the robots are part of the ambitious Moonshot initiative, a government-led program striving to establish a “symbiotic avatar society” by 2050. Equipped with advanced navigation and interactive capabilities, these assistants represent a significant step toward integrating artificial intelligence into everyday consumer experiences.

Looking ahead, Majid Al Futtaim plans to expand the use of AI-driven robotics across its retail, entertainment, and leisure properties, reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a global leader in smart city innovation. The current pilot at City Centre Mirdif will serve as a critical testing ground for refining robot-assisted services before wider implementation.

Shoppers at the mall can now interact with the robots for directions, recommendations, and general inquiries, marking a shift toward more autonomous and tech-enhanced customer service. As Dubai continues to embrace futuristic solutions, projects like this highlight the growing synergy between human needs and machine capabilities in shaping the retail landscape of tomorrow.

The initiative also reflects the UAE’s commitment to fostering public-private partnerships in technological advancement, ensuring that cutting-edge innovations translate into tangible benefits for residents and visitors alike. With robotics poised to play an increasingly prominent role in service industries, City Centre Mirdif’s experiment offers a glimpse into the next generation of retail experiences.
