UAE Launches National AI Strategy to Revolutionize Government Services
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, has unveiled a comprehensive new strategy integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into federal government operations. This initiative forms a central pillar of the “UAE Strategic Plan for Federal Government Development 2031,” aiming to create a “smarter, faster, and more effective government.”
The strategy targets optimizing processes and improving resource management across 38 federal government entities through AI implementation. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized a fundamental shift in governance philosophy: “Success was once measured by stringent regulation, team size, and procedural complexity. Today, success lies in simplicity and speed, effective services, and smart resource utilization in a complex world.”
Federal ministries have been directed to adopt more innovative and flexible working methods, integrating AI into daily operational processes. The strategy will be executed under the umbrella of the “We the UAE 2031” vision.
This announcement builds upon a significant June declaration by Sheikh Mohammed that, starting January 2026, the UAE’s National Artificial Intelligence System will hold advisory membership status within the UAE Cabinet, granting AI a formal role in high-level decision-making.
Highlighting the imperative for transformation, Sheikh Mohammed stated, “The world is undergoing massive scientific, economic, and social transformation. Our task is to prepare for the challenges of the coming decades to ensure prosperity and a dignified life for future generations.” The AI strategy is positioned as a critical tool in achieving this national preparedness and enhancing public service delivery.
