Dubai Residents Invited to Name Massive New Floating Crane

Residents of the United Arab Emirates have a unique opportunity: naming the Middle East and Africa’s largest floating crane. Drydocks World, part of DP World, has launched a competition inviting the public to suggest a name for this colossal 5,000-tonne engineering marvel.

The crane possesses extraordinary lifting power, capable of hoisting the equivalent of 400 double-decker buses or 25 wide-body airliners simultaneously. According to the organizers, the crane stands as a symbol of Dubai’s ambitions, commitment to sustainable development, and engineering excellence. The winning name should reflect the region’s core values, rich cultural heritage, and forward-looking vision.

Incentive for participation comes in the form of a significant prize: the winner will receive a full-size McLaren Racing helmet from the 2025 season. All UAE residents are eligible to enter the competition, and the chosen name will be prominently painted onto the crane’s hull.

Submissions, which can be in Arabic or English, are encouraged to draw inspiration from themes of strength, maritime heritage, innovation, and the UAE’s future aspirations. Entries will be reviewed by a judging panel that includes Emirati cultural figures and branding specialists. Proposals must be submitted through DP World’s official channels. The massive 180-metre crane is scheduled to commence operations in the summer of 2026.
