Dubai Police Recover Stolen $25 Million Pink Diamond in Record Time

Dubai Police have successfully recovered an extremely rare pink diamond, valued at 91.8 million dirhams (US$ 25 million), foiling an elaborate theft attempt. The swift operation, codenamed “Operation Pink Diamond,” was meticulously planned and executed within a record-breaking eight hours of the crime being reported.

According to authorities, three individuals of Asian origin devised a sophisticated plan after learning the rare gem had recently arrived in Dubai from Europe. Using forged documents, the suspects posed as intermediaries for a wealthy buyer to contact the seller. To build trust, they rented luxury cars, booked meetings at five-star hotels, and even brought a gemstone expert to an appointment. This deception led the seller to agree to show the diamond at a private villa.

It was at this villa that the thieves stole the precious stone. However, Dubai Police responded rapidly. Specialists employed advanced surveillance technologies to track down the suspects’ locations. Shortly after, law enforcement officers conducted searches at their residences and apprehended all three individuals. The diamond was discovered hidden inside a small refrigerator, where the thieves had temporarily stored it before attempting to smuggle the gem out of the UAE.

The jeweler, who has operated in Dubai since 2005, praised the police force’s professionalism and speed. He recounted that after dialing the emergency number 999, patrols arrived within minutes and launched the investigation. By the very next day, police informed him of the suspects’ arrest.

The recovered pink diamond, classified as Fancy Intense, weighs 21 carats and boasts exceptional clarity. It is considered one of the rarest diamonds globally, with the Dubai Media Office stating its rarity level is a mere 0.01%. The successful recovery highlights the efficiency of Dubai’s law enforcement in tackling high-value crimes.
