Dubai Fountain Set to Reopen This October After Major Renovation

One of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks, the Dubai Fountain, is scheduled to resume operations this fall following an extensive renovation. According to developer Emaar, the world’s largest performing fountain, located at the base of the Burj Khalifa and adjacent to The Dubai Mall, will be fully operational by October 1.

The fountain was closed on April 19 for comprehensive maintenance. Work included draining the 30-acre artificial lake, removing the old lining—which had frequently developed cracks—and installing a new concrete base with improved thermal insulation.

By August, visitors to Downtown Dubai had already noticed the basin being refilled with water. The upgraded fountain will feature a modernized sound and lighting system, enhanced water jet choreography, and new robotic mechanisms for controlling water movement and visual effects.

Prior to the renovation, the fountain could propel 22,000 gallons of water to heights of up to 140 meters, synchronized with music and dynamic lighting. During the closure, Emaar installed digital screens along the promenade near Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar to provide visitors with visual entertainment.

Additionally, tenants of 50 restaurants and cafes with views of the fountain and lake were exempted from rental payments for four months—from June to September—due to the expected reduction in visitor traffic during the renovation period.
