UAE Marks International Day of Charity with Global Humanitarian Efforts
The United Arab Emirates is observing the International Day of Charity on September 5, reaffirming its commitment to humanitarian missions worldwide. Charitable work has been deeply rooted in the nation’s culture since its formation, with the UAE consistently supporting those in need, providing disaster relief, and standing in solidarity with communities affected by crises, conflicts, and natural disasters.
Guided by the Ninth Principle of the country’s founding values – which establishes foreign humanitarian aid as both a national vision and a moral duty toward less fortunate communities – the UAE’s foreign assistance has exceeded 360 billion dirhams (US$98 billion) by mid-2024.
This year, the UAE is leading international efforts to assist the Palestinian population in Gaza through Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. The nation continues to provide humanitarian and rescue support to Sudan, with aid over the past decade surpassing US$3.5 billion. In Ukraine, more than 1.2 million people have received Emirati assistance as of last February.
In disaster response, the UAE dispatched aid to the Republic of Chad in January 2025, including 30,000 food parcels and over 20,000 blankets to mitigate flooding impacts. Additionally, 700 tons of urgent food supplies were sent to flood-affected regions of Somalia, and emergency support reached nearly 80,000 people in Myanmar affected by a recent earthquake.
On September 1, the UAE announced urgent assistance for 960 families on Yemen’s western coast impacted by floods, providing tents, food, and essential supplies. In a sustained effort toward long-term development, the UAE Aid Agency and the Chadian government signed an agreement to construct the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Hospital and a dialysis center in N’Djamena.
This year also saw the launch of the Fathers’ Endowment initiative, which allocates part of its proceeds to medical treatment for low-income families and supports healthcare systems in underprivileged communities through hospital development and medicine provision. These efforts reflect the UAE’s holistic approach to charity, blending immediate relief with sustainable development.
