Nigeria to Build Major Cultural Center in the UAE

A new landmark dedicated to African culture is set to rise in the United Arab Emirates. The upcoming Nigerian Cultural and Music Centre will serve as a grand platform to showcase African, and specifically Nigerian, art, music, cuisine, and design to a global audience.

Designed to host up to 10,000 visitors, the ambitious complex aims to highlight Africa’s vast creative potential and strengthen cultural ties between the continent and the Middle East. The project is a key part of Nigeria’s “Destination 2030: Nigeria Everywhere” initiative, led by the country’s Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy. It will be developed as a public-private partnership, with negotiations currently underway between Nigerian authorities, UAE government entities, and private investors.

Beyond a large concert arena, the center will be a multifaceted destination. Plans include a dedicated exhibition hall, a gastronomy zone featuring Nigerian cuisine, a gallery for African design, and an academy of crafts. This educational component will focus on training a new generation of talents in fields such as fashion, music, culinary arts, and storytelling.

The architectural vision comes from Seun Oduwole, renowned for the J.K. Randle Centre in Lagos. Oduwole states the design will masterfully blend traditional African motifs with contemporary architectural solutions, creating a physical “cultural bridge” between Africa and the Middle East. This project underscores Nigeria’s strategic push to bolster its presence on the international cultural stage, foster tourism, and expand creative industry collaboration with the Middle East.
