Dubai’s population reaches 4.58 million after one of its biggest annual jumps
Dubai’s population has reached a new milestone, with the number of residents rising to 4.58 million by the end of 2025. The emirate added approximately 332,000 people in just one year, representing annual growth of 7.5% and one of the fastest increases in Dubai’s history.
The figures highlight just how quickly Dubai continues to expand as an international destination for professionals, entrepreneurs, investors and families. But the resident population tells only part of the story.
During peak daytime hours, the number of people physically present in Dubai rises to approximately 6.39 million. Around 1.81 million additional people — including tourists, commuters, students, shoppers and other temporary visitors — can be in the emirate on an average day. This creates significant additional demand for transport, roads, utilities, healthcare and other public services.
Dubai launches real-time population monitoring
Alongside the new figures, Dubai has introduced Dubai Population Now, a digital system designed to monitor demographic changes continuously rather than relying on traditional censuses conducted at longer intervals.
The initiative was approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.
The system combines administrative records and smart government platforms with artificial intelligence, machine learning and predictive analytics. This allows authorities to track population trends in real time and use the information when planning housing, schools, healthcare, transportation and other essential infrastructure.
For a city growing at Dubai’s pace, real-time information could become increasingly important. Instead of waiting for periodic census results, policymakers will be able to see demographic changes as they happen and adjust planning accordingly.
Population growth follows Dubai’s economic expansion
The increase comes alongside strong economic and tourism performance. Dubai’s GDP grew by 5.4% in 2025, while the city welcomed 19.6 million international visitors, an increase of 5% from the previous year. Dubai Airports also handled around 96 million passengers, up 4.9%.
Officials say the population figures reflect Dubai’s continued international appeal, expansion of its labour market, rising demand for services and improvements in quality of life.
The scale of the transformation becomes even clearer when viewed historically. Dubai’s population has grown from approximately 12,000 people to more than 4.58 million in 144 years, turning what was once a relatively small trading settlement into one of the world’s most internationally connected cities.
With the population continuing to rise, Dubai’s next challenge is not simply attracting more residents, but ensuring that infrastructure and public services grow alongside them. The new real-time population system is designed to help the city plan for that next stage — using live data to understand not only how many people call Dubai home, but how many people actually use the city every day.
