Victory Team wins Kyrgyzstan Grand Prix and takes championship lead
Dubai’s Victory Team has claimed a major international victory after Shaun Torrente won the 2026 Grand Prix of Kyrgyzstan, moving into the lead of the F1H2O World Championship standings.
The race took place on Lake Issyk-Kul, where Torrente secured first place after a dramatic finish against Erik Stark. The Victory 1 driver crossed the line only 0.047 seconds ahead, following a contest that changed completely after a yellow flag reduced his earlier advantage and brought nine boats back into contention.
The result moved Torrente four points ahead of defending title contender Stefan Arand, who was forced to retire from the race. It is the first time Torrente has led the championship standings this season.
The achievement carries additional significance because Torrente has confirmed that the 2026 season will be his final year in the championship before retirement. His victory in Kyrgyzstan now puts him in a strong position to compete for one last world title.
A total of 18 drivers participated in the event, showcasing the speed and technical skill associated with Formula 1 powerboat racing. The competition also marked the first time Kyrgyzstan had hosted a round of the F1H2O World Championship.
Khaled bin Dasmal, board member of the Dubai International Marine Club and head of the Victory Team delegation, credited the result to the support provided by the UAE leadership and the club’s board of directors.
He said the victory reflected months of preparation and teamwork before the season began, as well as the professionalism of everyone involved with Victory Team. The organisation now intends to defend its position and remain in contention for the championship until the final round.
For Dubai, the result is another international sporting achievement for a team that represents the emirate on the global powerboat racing circuit.
With Torrente now leading the standings after a razor-thin victory at Issyk-Kul, Victory Team enters the next stage of the season with growing momentum and a clear opportunity to challenge for the world championship.
