Dubai Fitness Challenge returns for its 10th edition

Dubai Fitness Challenge is returning for its 10th edition, bringing 30 days of sport, wellness and free fitness activities across the city.

The 2026 edition will run from October 31 to November 29, once again encouraging residents and visitors to complete 30 minutes of physical activity every day for 30 consecutive days.

Organised by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Dubai Sports Council, this year’s challenge will mark a decade since the initiative was first launched.

Dubai Fitness Challenge celebrates 10 years

Dubai Fitness Challenge was launched in 2017 under the vision of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

Since then, the initiative has grown into one of the city’s largest annual community events.

Across its first nine editions, Dubai Fitness Challenge attracted more than 16 million participants.

Participation has increased significantly over the years. Around 786,000 people joined the inaugural edition in 2017, while annual participation surpassed three million in 2025.

The milestone 2026 edition will place an even greater emphasis on community participation and digital engagement as Dubai continues working towards its ambition of becoming one of the world’s most active cities.

Dubai Run and Dubai Ride return

Several of the challenge’s most popular flagship events will return this year.

The programme will once again include Dubai Run, Dubai Ride, Dubai Stand Up Paddle and Dubai Yoga.

Dubai Run has become one of the most recognisable events on the city’s sporting calendar since launching in 2019.

The event transforms Sheikh Zayed Road into a huge running route, giving thousands of participants the opportunity to run through one of Dubai’s most iconic urban landscapes.

Dubai Ride followed in 2020, opening major city roads to cyclists and creating another large-scale community event designed for different ages and fitness levels.

Stand Up Paddle and Dubai Yoga join the programme

Dubai Stand Up Paddle became part of the Fitness Challenge in 2023, bringing participants to Hatta for an outdoor fitness experience surrounded by mountains and water.

Dubai Yoga was introduced in 2024, expanding the programme beyond traditional running and cycling activities and bringing another major wellness event to the city.

Together, these flagship experiences demonstrate how Dubai Fitness Challenge has evolved far beyond its original 30-day exercise concept.

The initiative now combines mass-participation events, outdoor activities, community programmes and free fitness opportunities throughout the emirate.

Free Fitness Villages and activities across Dubai

Residents will also have access to Fitness Villages, Fitness Hubs and thousands of free classes and activities across Dubai during the challenge.

The number of Fitness Hubs has expanded considerably over the years.

In 2019, Dubai had 11 Fitness Hubs connected to the initiative. By 2025, that number had increased to 30, making free fitness opportunities accessible to more communities across the city.

These locations allow residents to participate in workouts and activities closer to where they live and work rather than relying exclusively on major central events.

Fitness becomes part of everyday life in Dubai

Over the past decade, Dubai Fitness Challenge has also contributed to a wider shift towards active living across the city.

Dubai has continued expanding running tracks, cycling routes, outdoor training areas and other infrastructure designed to encourage residents to stay active throughout the year.

The challenge itself lasts only 30 days, but its broader objective is to help participants develop habits that continue long after the official programme ends.

Organisers want physical activity to become a normal part of everyday life rather than something limited to gyms or organised sporting events.

A milestone year for Dubai Fitness Challenge

The 10th edition will celebrate how much the initiative has grown since 2017 while setting the stage for its next chapter.

From fewer than 800,000 participants during its first year to more than three million annually, Dubai Fitness Challenge has developed into a major part of the city’s lifestyle calendar.

From October 31 to November 29, residents and visitors will once again be encouraged to take part in the 30×30 challenge and explore hundreds of activities available throughout Dubai.

For its milestone anniversary, the message remains simple: 30 minutes of movement every day for 30 days — helping make fitness an increasingly permanent part of life in Dubai.
