Sheikh Mohammed funds Dh8.8 million treatment for toddler

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has pledged to cover approximately Dh8.8 million in medical expenses for a Jordanian toddler suffering from spinal muscular atrophy.

The child, Katia Abu Al Seoud, requires specialist treatment that her family says is not available in Jordan.

Her mother publicly appealed for help after doctors advised that Katia should receive follow-up care and treatment in Dubai.

Treatment to take place in Dubai

According to the family, Katia has been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, a rare genetic condition that affects muscle strength and movement.

Her mother said that the required treatment could not be provided in Jordan and that doctors recommended continuing Katia’s medical care at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital in Dubai.

The cost of treatment was estimated at around Dh8.8 million, placing it far beyond what the family could afford independently.
