Liwa Team takes SSV lead in FIA World Baja Cup
UAE driver Mansour Al-Helei has moved to the top of the SSV standings in the 2026 FIA World Baja Cup, delivering another major international result for Liwa Team.
Following the latest round at Baja España Aragón, Al-Helei increased his championship total to 212 points, giving him a 30-point advantage over his closest rival as the season enters its decisive stages.
Al-Helei moves to the top with 212 points
Competing alongside UAE navigator Khalid Al-Kendi, Al-Helei collected 51 points during the Spanish round behind the wheel of a Can-Am Maverick R.
The result moved the Emirati crew into first place in the SSV category.
Argentina’s Fernando Alvarez currently sits second with 182 points, while Norway’s Hedda Hosas is third with 176.
With three rounds remaining, the result gives Liwa Team an important advantage heading into the final part of the championship.
UAE driver also climbs overall standings
Al-Helei’s performance in Spain also strengthened his position beyond the SSV category.
He moved into second place in the overall FIA World Baja Cup drivers’ standings, continuing a season in which he has consistently competed among the leading drivers across all categories.
The Emirati now has 212 points in the overall classification, keeping him firmly in contention as the championship approaches its final rounds.
His progress reflects the consistency Liwa Team has maintained across the season, combining strong driving with the work of its technical and administrative crews.
A major milestone for Liwa Team
Al-Helei described taking the SSV championship lead as an important moment for the team but stressed that the title race is far from over.
The focus now is on protecting the category lead while continuing to improve the team’s position in the overall World Baja Cup standings.
The result in Spain adds to a strong season for the Emirati driver and navigator, who have regularly collected points across the championship’s international rounds.
Portugal comes next
Liwa Team will return to competition from October 15 to 18 for the sixth round of the championship in Portugal.
The BP Ultimate Baja de Portalegre will represent another important opportunity for Al-Helei to extend his advantage in SSV and strengthen his challenge in the overall standings.
After Portugal, the season will move to the Middle East for its final two rounds.
The Qatar International Baja will take place from October 28 to 31, followed by the season-ending Dubai International Baja in the UAE from November 5 to 8.
That means Al-Helei could ultimately fight for the championship on home soil.
UAE finale could decide the title
The final round in Dubai adds extra significance to Liwa Team’s current position.
With Al-Helei already leading the SSV category and competing near the top of the overall standings, the UAE event could become decisive in determining the final championship results.
Al-Helei also credited Liwa Sports Club for its continued support, highlighting its role in helping the team compete internationally.
For now, Liwa Team heads into the final three rounds with the SSV championship lead — and with an Emirati driver firmly in contention for one of the biggest titles of his season.
