Euphoria brings Indian indie nostalgia back to Dubai

Indian rock band Euphoria is returning to Dubai for a special one-night concert celebrating the songs that helped define India’s independent music scene in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Led by singer and frontman Palash Sen, the band will perform at Hard Rock Cafe, Dubai Festival City, on September 17, with a set built around some of its best-known tracks and nearly three decades of music.

A night built around nostalgia

The Dubai show is titled Back Then. Live Again. and is designed as a journey through the music many fans grew up listening to.

The set is expected to include Euphoria favourites such as Maaeri, Dhoom Pichak Dhoom, Aana Meri Gali and Ab Na Jaa.

For audiences who discovered the band during the rise of India’s independent pop and rock scene, the concert offers a chance to hear songs closely associated with college years, road trips, friendships and a period when non-film music was becoming a major part of Indian popular culture.

Euphoria helped define India’s indie era

Euphoria emerged at a time when Indian popular music was still dominated heavily by Bollywood soundtracks.

Instead of following the conventional film-music route, the group developed its own identity by combining Hindi songwriting, rock arrangements and Indian musical influences.

That distinctive sound became associated with the term “Hind rock”, helping Euphoria establish itself as one of the defining names of India’s non-film music movement.

Songs such as Maaeri and Dhoom Pichak Dhoom became particularly recognisable and helped the group build an audience far beyond traditional rock listeners.

Palash Sen remains at the centre

Nearly three decades later, Palash Sen remains the face and voice of Euphoria.

The singer has continued performing with the band both in India and internationally, maintaining a connection with listeners who first discovered their music decades ago while also reaching younger audiences.

That ability to cross generations is part of what organisers hope to capture with the Dubai performance.

Some fans will arrive knowing the songs from their original releases, while others have discovered Euphoria much later through streaming platforms, social media or family playlists.

From New York to Dubai

Over the years, Euphoria has performed on stages around the world.

The band has appeared at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York and the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, while its international touring history has included performances in cities such as London, Toronto, Los Angeles, Sydney, Moscow, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The group’s latest Dubai appearance continues that international relationship with a city that is home to a large Indian community and a strong audience for South Asian music.

More than just another concert

Organisers Milestone Entertainment and Knite Entertainment are positioning the show as more than a standard live performance.

The idea behind Back Then. Live Again. is to recreate the emotional connection people have with music from a particular stage of their lives.

A familiar song can instantly bring back memories of friends, university, travel or moments that may otherwise have been forgotten.

That sense of shared nostalgia is expected to be at the centre of the Dubai show.

Euphoria’s return arrives at a time when nostalgia-driven concerts and reunions are attracting audiences around the world, particularly as listeners revisit music from the 1990s and early 2000s.

But for Indian indie fans, Euphoria represents something particularly specific.

The band belonged to a period when artists outside Bollywood were building their own national audience and creating songs that became cultural markers for an entire generation.
