Dubai People Magazine Exclusive | Top Hotels of the World 2026

Mykonos is an island where luxury hospitality has reached an exceptionally high level. Every season brings new hotels, villas, restaurants and concepts, which means that simply being beautiful is no longer enough.

To stand out here, a hotel needs an identity.

As part of the international Dubai People Magazine — Top Hotels of the World 2026 project, our editorial journey continues across destinations that are shaping a new understanding of luxury hospitality.

Our next discovery in Greece is Million Stars Mykonos.

Located in Kalo Livadi, Mykonos, Million Stars exists at the intersection of a luxury resort, a private retreat and a contemporary design hotel. Its architecture was created by award-winning architect Pavlos Xatziagelidis, with privacy and distinctive design at the heart of the concept.

Million Stars Mykonos joins the Dubai People Magazine selection of Top Hotels of the World 2026 with a final editorial rating of 9.7/10.

MYKONOS BEYOND THE OBVIOUS

I have been coming to Mykonos for many years.

And the more you know this island, the more you realise that there is no single Mykonos.

There is the Mykonos of famous beach clubs and restaurants. There is the nightlife. There are yachts, sunsets and the iconic narrow streets of Mykonos Town.

But there is also another side of the island — more private, slower and more intimate.

Million Stars Mykonos belongs to this Mykonos.

The hotel is located in the Kalo Livadi area, away from some of the island’s busiest locations. And that changes the experience.

Here, you don’t feel that the hotel is competing with Mykonos for your attention.

Instead, the architecture, landscape, light and Aegean Sea become part of one composition.

It is contemporary, clean and visually powerful.

But, importantly, it still feels like Greece.

ARCHITECTURE AS THE MAIN CHARACTER

The first thing you notice at Million Stars is the architecture.

White geometric volumes, arches, curved lines, open spaces and the contrast between almost pure white architecture and the deep blue of the Aegean create an immediate visual identity.

But good hotel design is not simply about creating beautiful photographs.

For me, architecture works when it changes the way you feel inside a space.

And here, it does.

There is a certain softness to Million Stars despite the minimalism.

The curves prevent the architecture from feeling cold. Pools become part of the buildings. Terraces extend the rooms into the landscape. Light and shadow constantly change the appearance of the property throughout the day.

It feels almost sculptural.

And in Mykonos, where the visual language of white Cycladic architecture has been interpreted countless times, creating something recognisable without losing the connection to the island is not an easy task.

Million Stars manages to find its own visual language.

PRIVACY IS PART OF THE CONCEPT

One of the strongest themes running through Million Stars is privacy.

The hotel offers a collection of different suite categories, from more intimate options for couples to expansive suites and a four-bedroom villa designed for larger groups.

Many of these categories revolve around water.

Private pools.

Jacuzzis.

Indoor and outdoor swimming experiences.

Sea-view terraces.

This creates a very particular type of stay.

You don’t necessarily need to leave your suite to feel that you are experiencing Mykonos.

You can wake up, step outside, enter your own pool and look towards the Aegean.

Sometimes luxury is not about having more things to do.

It is about having fewer reasons to leave.

WHEN THE SUITE BECOMES THE DESTINATION

I think this is particularly important for the new generation of luxury travellers.

A hotel room used to be primarily the place where you slept between experiences.

Today, at the highest level of hospitality, the room itself has to become part of the experience.

Million Stars understands that.

The property offers distinctive categories including the Oasis Royal Suite, Topaz Riviera Water Suite, Iconic Luxury Suite, Gold Star Suite, Crystal Presidential Water Suite and the signature Million Stars Villa.

Several categories combine generous indoor and outdoor spaces with private pools, jacuzzis and views over the Aegean.

At the top of the collection, the four-bedroom Million Stars Villa takes the idea even further, creating the feeling of a private residence while retaining access to hotel service.

That combination is becoming increasingly relevant in luxury hospitality.

Guests want privacy, but they don’t necessarily want isolation.

They want independence without sacrificing service.

The result is somewhere between a private villa and a luxury hotel — and that is precisely where Million Stars becomes interesting.

A HOTEL FOR THE NEW LUXURY TRAVELLER

There is another thing I find interesting about Million Stars.

It doesn’t feel overly formal.

Luxury has changed dramatically over the past decade.

There was a time when five-star hospitality was associated primarily with formality: grand entrances, enormous lobbies, heavy interiors and a very visible demonstration of status.

The new generation often wants something different.

We still want exceptional service.

We still want beautiful spaces.

We still expect comfort.

But we also want freedom.

We want privacy without isolation.

Design without unnecessary formality.

Service without feeling that somebody is constantly standing next to us.

And we increasingly want places that feel as impressive in reality as they appear through the camera.

Million Stars feels designed for exactly this traveller.

THE SOCIAL SIDE OF MILLION STARS

Privacy does not mean isolation.

Million Stars also creates spaces where guests can move from their own private environment into a more social atmosphere.

The property includes dining and bar experiences, as well as spaces designed for drinks, conversation and evenings overlooking the Aegean.

I like this balance.

You can spend much of the day privately and then decide when you want to become social.

And that is actually very Mykonos.

This island has always been about contrasts.

Silence in the morning.

Energy at night.

Privacy inside your villa.

People everywhere twenty minutes later.

A completely empty horizon followed by one of the most international crowds in Europe.

The best hotels here understand that they don’t need to choose between those two worlds.

They need to give the guest access to both.

WELLNESS AS PART OF THE EXPERIENCE

A contemporary luxury hotel also needs to understand that wellness is no longer an optional extra.

For many travellers, it has become part of everyday life.

Million Stars integrates wellness into the property with spa experiences and fitness facilities, allowing guests to combine Mykonos with moments of recovery and relaxation.

And this matters.

Today’s luxury traveller increasingly expects a hotel to work around their lifestyle rather than interrupt it.

Travel should not necessarily mean abandoning your routine.

Sometimes the greatest comfort is being able to continue it — just with a much better view.

THE POWER OF VISUAL IDENTITY

From my professional perspective in media, PR and branding, Million Stars is particularly interesting because it understands something that has become fundamental in modern hospitality:

A hotel needs to be recognisable.

Today, every luxury property competes not only with the hotel next door.

It competes globally.

A guest in Dubai can discover a hotel in Mykonos in seconds. Someone in New York can save it for next summer. One image can travel around the world before the person who took it has even finished breakfast.

This has changed hotel design.

Architecture has become communication.

Interiors have become content.

A pool can become a brand asset.

A staircase, an arch or even the way sunlight enters a room can become part of a hotel’s identity.

Million Stars is naturally suited to this new reality.

Its white sculptural forms, curved architecture, pools and Aegean backdrop create a strong visual language.

You look at it and want to know where it is.

And in today’s world, curiosity is an incredibly valuable currency.

NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE LOUD

Mykonos has some of the world’s most recognisable hospitality brands.

And I think one of the interesting things about Million Stars is that it doesn’t need to imitate them.

It is building its own identity.

There is confidence in that.

Not every hotel needs to become a party destination.

Not every property needs thousands of people passing through its restaurant every evening.

Sometimes the stronger proposition is simply:

This is your space. Enjoy it your way.

That philosophy feels increasingly relevant.

Because after years in which luxury was often defined by visibility, many travellers are rediscovering the value of privacy.

The freedom to be seen when you want to be seen — and disappear when you don’t.

For me, that freedom is one of the clearest definitions of modern luxury.

MY PERSONAL IMPRESSION

After visiting hotels around the world, I have become increasingly interested in properties that have a clear point of view.

Perfection is difficult to define.

Personality is much easier to recognise.

Million Stars Mykonos has personality.

For me, its strongest qualities are its architecture, privacy, visual identity and the way water is incorporated into the accommodation experience.

It represents a younger and more contemporary interpretation of Mykonian luxury.

It doesn’t try to recreate the past.

Instead, it takes the visual codes of the Cyclades and moves them forward.

And perhaps that is what impressed me most.

Mykonos does not need another beautiful white hotel.

It needs hotels capable of offering their own interpretation of what this island can be.

Million Stars does exactly that.
