Emirates gets ready for busy holiday travel rush
With the end of the school year and the start of the holiday season, Emirates is expecting more than 1.1 million passengers to pass through Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport during this busy period, which runs until December 21. This weekend is expected to see a peak influx of around 250,000 passengers from Terminal 3.
Customers are advised to arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure and ensure they have all the necessary documents before proceeding to the check-in desk. To expedite your time at the airport and ensure a smoother departure, passengers can avoid the rush by physically checking in 24 hours before departure, dropping off luggage and collecting boarding passes via 32 self-service baggage drop-off machines and 16 check-in kiosks at Terminal 3.* Customers using self-service kiosks must complete immigration formalities at least 60 minutes before departure.
Customers can also check in online up to 48 hours and up to 90 minutes prior to departure and download digital boarding passes to their mobile phones for certain destinations.
Customers who check in less than 60 minutes before departure will not be allowed to fly.
To further speed up the process, customers can also use the Emirates Biometric Pathway at Terminal 3 to complete their check-in without contact at dedicated check-in desks, in Emirates lounges and at the gate. The biometric pathway allows customers to complete immigration formalities and board the aircraft with virtually no document checks or queues.
After check-in, passengers are advised to be on time for their boarding gate. The gate opens 90 minutes prior to departure, boarding begins 45 minutes prior to departure and the gate closes 20 minutes before departure. Emirates will not be able to accept passengers who are late for boarding. Check-in and gate closing times will be strictly enforced to ensure flights depart as scheduled and avoid impacting on operations.

All Emirates and DXB locations are fully prepared for the surge in holiday passenger traffic, with measures and protocols in place to improve security as customers pass through Terminal 3. Alongside industry-leading contactless technology and biometric travel, Emirates customers can rest assured that the airline and its partners have made every effort to make their airport journey as safe and smooth as possible.
This includes robust and consistent cleaning protocols for high-traffic areas such as seats and handrails; advanced surface cleaning technology in dedicated Emirates lounges to keep them germ-free for longer; social distancing measures with floor markings, signage and airport staff safely managing passenger flow; hand sanitisation stations; and Plexiglas partitions at all Emirates check-in desks, among many other measures.
