Expo 2020 Dubai celebrates grand event – 20 million visits
On Saturday (March 19), Expo 2020 Dubai reached the landmark mark of 20 million visitors, an amazing achievement that made history against all odds and brought the entire world to the UAE for the largest global gathering since the pandemic began.
Demonstrating tremendous resilience in the face of unprecedented challenges, the largest event ever held in the Arab world brought together unprecedented cultural, educational, and entertaining activities. 192 countries came together to showcase the best their nations have to offer.
World leaders, cutting-edge innovations, sports heroes, Grammy Award-winning artists, incredible architecture, Arabian superstars, innovative forums, world cuisine and the guarantee of something new and amazing every new day – these are some 32,000 events and countless attractions of the region’s first World Expo that propelled Expo 2020 Dubai to this monumental achievement.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group and Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai High Committee, said: “When we began this journey in 2013, and even earlier when we were preparing the Expo 2020 Dubai bid, we had a dream to invite the entire world to Dubai and the UAE for an unprecedented global gathering that would long remain in hearts and minds.”
“The fact that we realized that dream is no longer in doubt, but to achieve such a landmark number of visits is a true testament to how the world has responded to what we have worked so long and hard to achieve. We believe that these millions of people will take their memories back to their families and friends, wherever they are in the world, to continue the impressive work we started at Expo 2020 Dubai.”
This historic achievement will be celebrated on Saturday, from 8:30 p.m. GMT, with a special projection on the Al Wasl dome and a spectacular fireworks display.
In support of Expo 2020, Dubai has attracted a large number of visitors, with nearly 70 percent coming from the UAE. According to the latest figures, children under the age of 18 visited the expo more than 2.8 million times. This global event inspires a new generation of innovators and change-makers.
There’s still an opportunity to experience what has made Expo 2020 Dubai so successful: March 20-26 will be Water Week, the 10th and final Expo 2020 Dubai theme week, which will explore how we can protect our most precious resource today and tomorrow. The week is part of the People and Planet program, which seeks to explore humanity’s most important challenges and opportunities.
A host of countries from around the planet will celebrate their national Expo 2020 Dubai days, including Canada (March 19), Pakistan (March 23), South Africa (March 28) and India (March 28), and the International Bureau of Exhibitions (BIE), the governing body for World Fairs, will be held on March 30.
Expo 2020 Dubai Run 3 will wrap up the hugely successful sports series on March 26, and a high-quality program of entertainment and events will continue over the next two weeks.
There are only 13 days left until the exhibition closes on March 31: it’s now or never, before it disappears forever.
