Al Jalila Foundation cooperates with Fundación Iker Casillas and IDOVEN

The Al Jalila Foundation, a member of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives dedicated to transforming lives through medical innovation, today announced a collaboration with the Iker Casillas Foundation and IDOVEN to improve heart health monitoring through technology, artificial intelligence and healthcare innovation to improve lives.

Together with the Al Jalila Foundation, the parties will conduct a pilot study to monitor the heart health of a cohort of 100 people who will undergo a comprehensive professional medical assessment and provide their “heartbeat data” to contribute to research and prevention of sudden death among groups at high risk of heart disease.

Fundación Iker Casillas is a non-profit organisation led by world-famous football legend Iker Casillas, who created the foundation to support, promote and develop activities that improve health and quality of life.  IDOVEN is a European HealthTech start-up based in Madrid that aims to prevent heart disease, myocardial infarction and sudden death.

According to the World Health Organisation, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide, claiming almost 20 million lives every year. They are also the leading cause of death in the UAE, accounting for 30% of deaths annually. The partnership aims to reduce the number of preventable cardiovascular diseases.

Dr Abdulkarim Al Olama, CEO of the Al Jalila Foundation, welcomed Iker Casillas, founder of the Iker Casillas Foundation, and Dr Manuel Marin Breis, executive director and co-founder of IDOVEN, gave them a tour of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Medical Research Institute and familiarised them with the Foundation’s education and research programmes.

The partnership will pioneer the introduction of automated cardiac diagnostic systems, which will enable the future remote monitoring of patients using scalable technology, while at the same time contributing to cardiovascular disease research and prevention in the UAE.

Since its inception in 2013, the Al Jalila Foundation has created opportunities to expand innovative and effective medical research by investing AED 28 million in 100 research grants and nine international research fellowships to find solutions to the region’s biggest health challenges: cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, mental health and emerging diseases.  In 2021, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Institute of Medical Research, a subsidiary of the Al Jalila Foundation, pledged AED 8 million annually to the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences to develop biomedical research.
