Expo 2020 Dubai souvenirs in the latest sale
Fans of Expo 2020 Dubai can bring a piece of the global exhibition home – two months after the global event ended.
A sale of remaining merchandise from the six-month-long spectacle began in Dubai on Friday, and prices on many items have been slashed.
Organisers said everything from the stars on the front of the US pavilion to the mannequins used to display clothes, as well as many cherished souvenirs, were on sale.
The warehouse with the merchandise is located in the Dubai Investment Park. The warehouse is operated by TVG, which is responsible for the official shops at the World Expo venue. TVG deputy manager Ashraf Mirghani said: “We sell all official Expo 2020 Dubai merchandise – from passports, pens, souvenir coins to more luxurious items. We have been open for the last few days, but only to employees who worked at Expo 2020 Dubai to be the first to get a chance to buy items at discounted prices. Most of the items for sale here in the warehouse have gone down by 25-75% compared to what was on sale during the event itself.”
According to Mr Mirghani, the most sought-after items will be passports, badges with the exhibition logo and limited edition coins.
He said the sale would be the last opportunity to buy goods at the same price as during the event and in some cases even cheaper.
Mr Mirghani pointed to the boom in online sales of goods related to the exhibition as proof of its popularity.
During the two-week sale, fans will be able to buy not only merchandise but also unique souvenirs such as wheelchairs that were used during the event, spare shoe sets that were part of staff uniforms but were not worn, and wheelchairs that were used to transport visitors around the exhibition grounds.
“We have already sold one of the six-seater buggies that were used in the US pavilion for around AED 28,000,” Mr Mirghani said.
“You can buy everything from cutlery and plates used by the staff to the New Balance shoes they wore as part of their uniforms.”
Other items included mannequins, which were used in shops during the show to showcase the range of official T-shirts and other clothing that could be purchased, all of which are also on sale in stock.
Staff working on the sale also worked at Expo 2020 in Dubai.
