Ahmed bin Mohammed greets UAE medalists at fifth Islamic Solidarity Games
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the UAE National Olympic Committee, today met the winners of the fifth Islamic Solidarity Games held last month in Konya, Turkey.
Praising the athletes, His Highness said their exceptional results reflected the high standards of excellence achieved by the UAE sports sector and the country’s consistent commitment to the sporting values of excellence, respect and friendship – core values of the Olympic movement.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed further said that the UAE National Olympic Committee has played an important role in encouraging promising athletes in the country to participate in local, regional and global sporting events, and encouraged Emirati athletes to continue improving their performance on the sporting field in line with the UAE leadership vision and the objectives of the Principles 50.
UAE athletes won 10 coloured medals at the fifth Islamic Solidarity Games, including three gold, two silver and five bronze medals in three sports disciplines – cycling, judo and para archery – marking the country’s biggest medal achievement since the event was founded in 2005.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Azza bint Sulaiman, assistant general secretary for administrative and financial affairs of the UAE National Olympic Committee, and Mohammed bin Darwish, executive director of the committee.
