MBRU scientists ranked among the top 2% in the world
Stanford University has honoured nine Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) scientists in its latest ranking of the world’s top 2%.
Dr Amer Sharif, president of MBRU and CEO of Dubai Academic Health Corporation, congratulated MBRU teachers on the award and said: “Stanford is one of the world’s leading research and teaching institutions. The inclusion of 9 MBRU teachers in the world’s top scientific talent rankings is an important milestone for MBRU. It reflects the dedication of high calibre faculty members to research. Since its inception in 2016, MBRU has published nearly 1,000 peer-reviewed publications, reflecting its commitment to innovation and improving healthcare.”
Professor Stéphane du Plessis, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at MBRU, said: “The medical field is constantly evolving with new technologies, practices and innovations. Research is crucial in helping us navigate this ever-changing world, so research is a key pillar of our university. We are delighted that our talented faculty has received this recognition.”
The study, led by Stanford academics, is a database that ranks the world’s researchers in 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. The list of the world’s top 2% of scientists consists of two databases that name the most cited scientists. One assesses a researcher’s contribution to their research field in 2021, and it names seven MBRU professors: Professor Stéphane du Plessis in Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine, Professor Samuel B. Ho in gastroenterology and hepatology, Prof Keivan Moharamzadeh in dentistry, Dr Momen Atieh in dentistry, Dr Ahmad Abu Tayoun in genetics and heredity, Prof Lakshmanan Jeyaseelan in general and internal medicine and Prof Nandu Goswami in cardiovascular system and haematology.
The second award recognises a lifelong scholar’s contribution to their field and four faculty members of IBRU have been named with it. They are Prof Samuel B Ho and Prof Thomas Adrian in gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr Momen Atieh in dentistry and Prof Riad Bayoumi in general and internal medicine.
Both lists also noted the late Professor Dimitrios Tziafas, Professor of Endodontics at Hamdan Bin Mohamed College of Dentistry from 2016 to 2019. Professor Tziafas was listed in the sub-discipline of Dentistry.
