Firdaus Orchestra: first all-women symphony orchestra in the UAE
The United Arab Emirates has its first women’s symphony orchestra under the direction of Indian composer and Oscar winner Allah Rakha Rahman – Firdaus.
The main task of the creative ensemble, which consists of 50 women from 20 countries, is to inspire people and bring love and joy to the audience. The first concert of the women’s symphonic orchestra will take place online on 22 December.
The programme consists of popular Middle Eastern melodies, ballads and compositions in the style of flamenco and symphonies. The multilingual, cosmopolitan ensemble made its debut during EXPO-2020 in Dubai and is steadily gaining fans in the region.
The concert starts at 6pm and will be broadcast from a studio in the Expo City Dubai area. The ensemble will educate the audience on the limitless possibilities and unifying power of music. The orchestra will be accompanied by renowned Filipino pop singer Katrina Velarde, who will perform the classic Filipino Christmas song Pasko Na Sinta Ko.
Solange Merdinian, an American-Argentine opera singer, promises to captivate the audience with her powerful and memorable opera performance, while flamenco guitarist Mercedes will delight the audience with her Spanish passion. The orchestra will also perform live arrangements of Jingle Bells and other Christmas ballads.
