Dubai reveals flying taxi stops

Flying taxis will be launched in the skies over Dubai in the next three years, said His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

Designs for future flying taxi stops have already been unveiled at the World Government Summit this week. “We have approved the design of the new flying taxi stations in Dubai, which will start operating within three years,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority is working with advanced companies Skyports Infrastructure and Joby Aviation to design and develop the infrastructure to launch electric taxis with vertical take-off and landing by 2026.

Dubai will be the world’s first city with a fully developed network of so-called vertiports. In the first phase, an air transport line is planned to connect Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina areas.

Each eco-friendly taxi accommodates a pilot and four passengers, has a range of 241km and reaches a top speed of 300km/h. Last year, the Chinese company XPeng Aeroht demonstrated a two-seat electric flying car in Dubai. Serial production will start in 2024.

Already in 2023 in Abu Dhabi can begin production of Japanese flying motorbikes Xturismo – the cost of the model is US$ 777 thousand. It is noted that the production will be engaged in the company Aerwins and its partner in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The single-seat flying motorbike weighs 300kg and has a maximum payload of 100kg. It has a top speed of 100km per hour and a maximum range of 40km. For now, it can only be flown over race tracks.
