Dubai Art Season reminds of major events
The #DubaiDestinations initiative will continue to showcase the city’s outstanding attractions and events in the coming weeks with a special focus on the arts and culture sector as part of the ongoing Dubai Art Season.
The Dubai Art Season, which began on February 1 and will run until March 20, 2023, showcases a diverse programme of arts and music events, highlighting Dubai’s global cultural status and exceptional offerings.
Under the theme “Take a Walk on the Art Side” the season features a diverse range of initiatives that will transform Dubai into an oasis of inclusive art throughout February and March 2023. Programs include Sikka Art and Design Festival, Art Dubai, Dubai Opera performances, DIFC Art Nights and many other entertainment events.
Dubai Art Season 2023 includes several events and activities, including the 11th Sikka Art and Design Festival, which will be held from 24 February to 5 March in the historic Al Fahidi Quarter under the theme “New Creativity. Same Way”, as well as the 16th Art Dubai, which will be held at Madinat Jumeirah from 1 to 5 March 2023. Alongside art discussions, the exhibition will also feature a session by Etihad Museum, organised by Dubai Culture, which will bring together several artists and creatives to present new ideas inspired by crafts, reflecting their vision for the future of these crafts.
Sikka Art & Design Festival takes place in Dubai’s historic Al Fahidi district from February 24 to March 5, 2023. This comprehensive annual celebration supports and showcases Dubai’s growing creative and cultural scene, supporting and exhibiting the work of Emirati artists, artists from the UAE and the GCC, as well as providing an opportunity for artists to engage with their counterparts from around the world.
Taking place at Jumeirah from March 1-5, 2023, the Art Dubai exhibition will offer visitors the opportunity to explore contemporary and current art from around the world, as well as participate in workshops and panel discussions led by experts and artists who will discuss topics related to the field of art. There will also be specialised sessions bringing together artists and creatives from around the world.
DIFC Art Nights is one of the most important annual events organised by Gate Avenue. The World Art Dubai event attracts over 4,000 people annually including artists, collectors and fashionistas. It aims to support Dubai’s art scene and highlight the most creative works. The “M2L Market” at Gate Avenue – DIFC will focus on entertainment, art and food, giving visitors the opportunity to experience different experiences and sample new international flavours.
In addition, Alserkal Avenue, a vibrant community of over 500,000 square feet in Dubai’s Al Quoz Industrial Zone, will host a series of creative cultural events. Throughout February and March, Alserkal Avenue and Alserkal Arts Foundation will host a series of creative cultural events, including a wide range of art exhibitions, talks and events such as the Tree School initiative, a gathering place for groups and individuals interested in learning from each other and sharing common urgent needs based on life experiences.
To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Japan, Dubai Culture is collaborating with the Consulate of Japan in Dubai to produce ‘Dubai in the Year 1962’, an exhibition supported by Sankei Shimbun newspaper and Kimi Makishima-Akai featuring 25 photographs documenting Dubai life in 1962, taken by Yoshio Kawashima, a Japanese photojournalist from Sankei Shimbun, during his visit to the Middle East, accompanied by his fellow journalist Hiroshi Kato.
Throughout the year, Dubai Opera will present a series of musical and theatrical performances that highlight the creativity of regional and international performers and musical talents, while the digital art centre “Infinity des Lumières” in the Dubai Mall will present digital art exhibitions in an innovative technological manner during the same period.
The ongoing #DubaiDestinations campaign brings together a wide range of public and private sector stakeholders to showcase the emirate’s artistic experience. The initiative also brings together the emirate’s most talented artists, including influencers, photographers, digital media content creators, animators and videographers, to create exciting new content about Dubai’s arts offerings.
