THRYVE™: 100% plant-based meat factory in Dubai
The IFFCO Group, one of the UAE’s largest producers of food products, has opened THRYVE™ – the first 100% plant-based meat factory in the region, in Dubai.
Located in the industrial city of Dubai, the THRYVE™ plant will be a catalyst for the transition to a more sustainable and healthy food chain in the Middle East, actively supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the UAE Vision 2051 initiative to enhance food security through diversity and innovation. The plant will produce nutritious, sustainable and healthy local plant-based meat products inspired by the unique flavours of Middle Eastern cuisine.
The plant-based THRYVE™ factory, developed using advanced food technology, contributes to at least three UN SDGs: good health and well-being, responsible consumption and production, and action to protect the climate.
The only 100% plant-based plant in the Middle East, IFFCO’s THRYVE™ will use advanced food technology to produce delicious, healthy, sustainable and culturally relevant food that meets the needs of local consumers. In addition, IFFCO is working closely with the government to create regulatory standards for plant-based foods.
According to a report by ResearchAndMarkets.com, the global plant-based meat market is valued at US$7.9 billion in 2022 and is forecast to reach US$15.7 billion by 2027. The recently opened THRYVE™ plant will serve 30% of the Gulf’s population, boosting the market for local plant-based products. According to its own research, the Gulf has the potential to become a future leader in developing foods for flexitarians – people whose diets are predominantly vegetarian.
THRYVE™ is an innovative plant-based nutrition centre, where rediscovered ancient agricultural wisdom meets new food research and technology. THRYVE™ products combine the macro and micronutrients of the ‘ingredient-hero’ bean with the flavours of local cuisine.
