‘A Call With Space’ to take place in the UAE
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has launched an exclusive ‘A Call With Space’ event featuring Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, which will take place across the UAE. The roadshow will give the public an opportunity to interact live with Sultan, who is currently on the International Space Station (ISS) on the longest ever Arab space mission.
The ‘A Call with Space’ roadshow will take place at various locations in all seven emirates of the UAE. The first event is scheduled to take place at the prestigious Dubai Opera House on 21 March at 2.30pm, with doors opening from 2pm. The event promises to be an unforgettable experience for aspiring astronauts, space enthusiasts and anyone interested in learning more about the ISS and space.
During the event, participants will have the opportunity to ask Sultan questions about life on the ISS, including the daily activities of astronauts, scientific research carried out in microgravity, and the challenges of living in a unique space environment.
Managed by MBRSC under the UAE National Space Programme, the UAE Astronaut Programme prepares Emirati astronauts for manned missions to the ISS and other space destinations. It is funded by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority’s (TDRA) ICT Foundation, which aims to support research and development in the UAE’s ICT sector and promote the country’s integration on the global stage.
Al Neyadi, who has completed the UAE’s astronaut training programme at MBRSC, arrived at the ISS on March 3, becoming the second Emirati and the second Arab to have been aboard the orbiting science laboratory. His flight, the longest for an Arab astronaut, is expected to cement the UAE’s position as a leading space power in the Middle East.
The UAE has successfully launched several space missions in recent years. In September 2019, the country’s first astronaut Hazzaa Al Mansouri flew for eight days to the ISS, generating worldwide attention. In February 2021, the UAE’s Hope probe successfully orbited Mars, becoming the Arab country’s first interplanetary mission. The design, development and operation of the mission is led by the MBRSC. The probe has been studying the atmosphere of Mars and weather conditions for the past two years. MBRSC has also launched several satellites, including DubaiSat-1 and DubaiSat-2, used for remote sensing, and KhalifaSat, the first satellite built 100% by Emiratis.
