Advancing Artificial Intelligence Impact in Dubai
In partnership with Digital Dubai and Microsoft, the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) has launched a major report ‘Advancing Artificial Intelligence Impact in Dubai: Future Directions to Strengthen the Digital Economy’. The report is a major field and policy study by MBRSG on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support the digital economy in Dubai. The comprehensive study identifies key trends, challenges and policy directions related to several key pillars of Dubai’s digital economy agenda, focusing on the role of artificial intelligence as a key component and driver.
The report was presented at a face-to-face event on Monday, 20 March 2023 at MBRSG headquarters in Dubai in the presence of Dr Ali bin Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Management, and Yunus Al Nasser, Assistant CEO Digital Dubai and CEO Dubai Data Establishment, along with senior representatives from the public and private sectors in Dubai.
The main objective of the report, “Advancing Artificial Intelligence Impact in Dubai: Future Directions for Strengthening the Digital Economy”, is to shape future policies that will lead to a thriving digital economy and pave the way for innovative and ethical adoption of artificial intelligence and its applications.
The report looked at the challenges and opportunities faced by companies and organisations that rely on data and digital infrastructure in their day-to-day operations, as well as those developing digital and AI products.
The study is based on three surveys that were distributed to hundreds of public and private sector organisations working in the digital economy in Dubai. Respondent organisations were asked about practices related to digitisation, use of data and AI, policy and governance. The study presents data collected between 2021 and 2023, including a survey on the potential for generative AI in government. The surveys explored five key areas related to digital transformation, data collection and use, AI adoption, blockchain adoption and the adoption of remote working policies and practices.
Overall, the survey identified several points for policy discussion related to data use, AI adoption and blockchain. Building on the findings of the MBRSG policy research team, the report concludes with an analysis of the digital economy ecosystem based on the research findings as well as future policy directions.
The report’s public launch event was followed by a private Policy Council with key government agencies in Dubai on the implications of generative AI and big language models (LLM) for government, with a focus on the example of ChatGPT.
