“Lazgi – Dance of Soul and Love” in Dubai

The Art and Cultural Development Foundation of Uzbekistan has presented a number of cultural events at the World Expo, including the international premiere of the ballet “Lazgi – Dance of Soul and Love” at the Dubai Opera House on 27 November.

Among the guests were representatives of the UAE government, investment and business circles.

The international audience was presented an entirely new interpretation of Khorezmian dance, showcasing the distinctive traditions of the Uzbek people. The staging of “Lazgi – the dance of soul and love” takes the Uzbek ballet to a new level and begins its first tour around the world. For the first time, the cultural heritage and history of one of Uzbekistan’s most popular dances is presented on the Dubai Opera House stage.

The history of ‘Lazgi’ goes back three thousand years. This ancient Khorezmian dance is shrouded in riddles and myths, embodying ancient folk wisdom.

 The premiere performance, directed by choreographer Raimondo Rebeck and performed by the ballet troupe of the Alisher Navoi State Academic Bolshoi Theatre, was held in Tashkent for the first time on 5 September under the auspices of UNESCO and was highly praised by the professional community.

 Recall that on 12 December 2019, UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage included the ‘Khorazm Dance – Lazgi’ in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

It is a fantastic journey from the past to the present, from the present to the future. This is a legend that originates in the sultry desert, where Soul awakens and dances to the songs of shamans, and where Love comes alive, which is now destined to follow this dance through years and distance. The history of the people, the memory of ancestors and voices of spirits – in every act of Lazgi the link between times gets stronger, so that in the finale Soul and Love become one whole, united in spirit and cultural treasure. Stunning scenery, incredible combination of light, music and art of plastics, and, of course, the brilliant performance by the National Ballet of Uzbekistan – this performance has already become a sensation!

Visitors to the premiere, immersed in the atmosphere of vivid stage and national characters of the performance “Lazgi – Dance of the Soul and Love”, deeply felt the philosophy of life of the Uzbek people.
