UAE Football Association and Expo 2020 Dubai organise All-Star Exhibition Game

As a part of a strategic partnership with Expo 2020 Dubai, the United Arab Emirates Football Association is bringing together football legends, celebrities, local dignitaries and VIPs who share a passion for the game to host an exhibition football match at Expo 2020 Dubai on 8 January 2022.

Four international superstars, Patrice Evra, Michel Salgado, Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri, were invited to recruit their own ‘all-star’ teams via social media to participate in the game. Each of the four team captains was tasked with assembling fifteen squads consisting of:

– up to eight football icons/legends/celebrities/ VIPs

– up to three representatives of Expo 2020 pavilions

– up to two rising stars

– two wild cards (which may include selected members of the public),

– There must be at least three women on each team.

The event aims to be a highlight in the UAE’s football calendar, kicking off the new year with some of the most recognisable names and faces in the city at the time. The exhibition game will take place from 16.00 to 19.00 at Expo 2020 Dubai. The event will also be held in limited open access for the public attending Expo 2020.

In collaboration with the UAE FA and Expo 2020, organisations such as Dubai Tourism, Dubai Cares, Football for Peace, Dubai Sports Council and Adidas are participating in this unique event.

The four All-Star team captains are global icons with a history of exceptional sporting successes, including winning the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and domestic league tournaments in England, France, Spain and Italy. They have also been star players at the world’s most famous football clubs, such as Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal.

The concept of the event was based on the ideas of the UAE FA leadership, who organised the friendly in January 2021 ahead of the launch of the 2038 strategy. Since then, the UAE FA has worked with a number of strategic partners to bring together some of the biggest names in the game.

Mohammed Hazzam Al Daheri, Secretary General of the UAE Football Association, described the event, which will kick off the UAE football calendar in 2022, as a success story, the result of a partnership between the UAE FA and Expo 2020, established in October.
