Latifa bint Mohammed awards the women’s trophy at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and member of Dubai Council, attended the official closing ceremony of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where she presented the women’s singles trophy to Elena Ostapenko from Latvia, who won the title by beating Veronika Kudermetova from Russia in straight sets.

The championship is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

One of the most eagerly anticipated events on the UAE sports calendar and one of the most popular stops on the ATP World Tour and WTA Tour, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, began on February 14. The tournament, which features some of the world’s highest-ranked players, will conclude with the men’s final on February 26.

This year’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships reinforces the city’s status as a major global sports hub and a destination for global stars in various sports disciplines. With some of the world’s best stadiums for various sports, including horse racing, golf, cricket, rugby and soccer, in addition to tennis, Dubai has an extremely successful track record of hosting multi-phase global tournaments.

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

The official closing ceremony of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships was also attended by His Highness Sheikh Hasher Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Tennis Federation and Nasser Yousef, Secretary General of the UAE Tennis Federation. Also in attendance were distinguished guests from the tournament organizing committee: Colm McLaughlin, executive vice chairman and general manager of Dubai Duty Free, Salah Tahlak, tournament director, and Ramesh Chidambi, chief operating officer of Dubai Duty Free.

During the tournament, eight of the world’s top 10 players competed for the famous Dhow trophy at the Dubai Duty Free tennis stadium.
