Carrefour opens its first BIO store in the UAE

Supermarket giant Carrefour has opened its first Carrefour BIO concept store in downtown Dubai. The new BIO store is designed to make it easier for customers to access eco-friendly and safe products.

The store has been specifically designed with eco-friendly shopping in mind; its shelves feature more than 3,000 organic and healthy products, as well as locally grown, hormone-free products.

Speaking of shelves: they were made from recycled wooden pallets. In an effort to reduce single-use plastic, the store has a “refill” section where customers can bring their own container and refill it with detergent, for example.

Barcodes and digital price tags will be available via WiFi as an alternative to paper labels, which may need to be refreshed several times during the life cycle of products.

Supporting the farm-to-table lifestyle, Carrefour BIO promises fruits and vegetables from 100% organic certified farms, and the store even has an indoor hydroponic farm.

If you’re on a keto, free-from or plant-based diet, or just want to do your part to protect the environment by shopping more consciously, there’s something here for you.

Carrefour BIO also aims to support the community and local small businesses by showcasing artisanal products from UAE businesses in a specific part of the store.

Shoppers will also be able to take a break from shopping at Carrefour’s first in-store cafe.

Here you’ll find everything from all-day breakfasts to salads, pizzas and manakaesh.

Dubai continues to move toward becoming an increasingly sustainable and environmentally conscious society, thanks to initiatives such as the introduction of plastic bag fees, due in July, and new free fresh water refueling stations throughout Dubai.

In line with these initiatives, Carrefour BIO will use biodegradable packaging for fresh produce and use recyclable paper bags instead of single-use plastic bags.

For anyone who cares about the environment and likes to buy fresh products, Carrefour BIO will be a welcome option for weekly shopping.
